![]() (maybe not new instruments, but new notes/chords/whatever that sound different) In short, I'm not a fan of the sound effects that get added in as the song goes on. We get Bert's bridge, which is suddenly adding new instrumentals that feel tacked on. About halfway through is where the song goes off the rails to me. It's a cute little melody, a cute little rhyme for a family to sing, and a cute little activity for them to go off and do. Up through the atmosphere, up where the air is clear Let's go fly a kite and sending it soaring Let's go fly a kite, up to the highest heights The way the music goes up just feels appropriate for sky and air activities, like flying a kite. The main chorus of the song are simple lyrics about flying a kite accompanied by music that does give the right feeling of a kite rising. ![]() It's more why I don't think it's as strong as the others. Some of my dislike for this song is that it feels like both very simple but also "everything but the kitchen sink". Everything is really swell and that means it's Mary's time to go. His wife inexplicably throws away her suffragette ways to contribute a tail to the kite (her story arc bugs me a lot) and they skip off to the park to go fly the kite. Banks' journey to get to this point where he's less fussed about work and more willing to engage with his children. I know, I know, the song is part of the heartwarming scene where the family comes together and gets their happy ending. Personally I think that Let's Go Fly a Kite is among the weakest of the songs in this movie. ![]() I adore the soundtrack so much that I got carried away defending my favorite from it and haven't wanted to contribute to the slaughter (I know, I cut Sister Suffragette). ![]() There are so many good ones, and over the course of the rankdown, they keep dropping like flies. Every time songs from this movie get cut I feel a little sad in my heart. ![]()
