12/17/2023 0 Comments Chimpanzee war tactics![]() Two of the worst match ups for Chimpanzees are arboreal snakes and Humans. Like other social primates they also have surprisingly good match ups against Big cats like Lions and Leopards because of their high sociability, great strength and tool use often forming together in a large group screaming and throwing rocks and sticks at the great cat until it retreats Chimpanzees in general have great match-ups against smaller primates like Monkeys and Bush babies ,by using their superior intelligence and pack tactics against monkeys and their special tool use ability on Bush babies by sticking sharp spear-like branches into the Bush babies tree hole in the day while the small nocturnal primate is recharging stamina or afking, eliminating it before dragging them out to gain EXP. ![]() This along with their omnivorous diet and complex social networks makes them extremely adaptable and also makes Chimpanzees one of the most viable primates in the current meta.Ĭhimps though primarily herbivorous have a taste for meat using pack tactics to hunt down smaller animals such as Bush Pigs small antelopes and other primates. They are also the only non-humanoid ape to be found outside of Tropical Rainforests occasionally venturing out onto the savannas. Being omnivores they will eat just about anything they can find though they do prefer plant material this adaptation has allowed them to become the most prolific non-humanoid great ape in the current meta helping them range in a belt-like fashion across Equatorial Africa. Chimps are relatively standard when it comes to Primate gameplay (A jack of all traits per say) meaning there is nothing that makes them really stand out among the crowd but on the flipside this makes them great generalists. In this use of war-like strategy by chimpanzees we are perhaps seeing traces of the small scale proto-warfare that probably existed in prehistoric hunter-gatherer populations.Belonging to A tier, chimpanzees like their fellow simian kin are gifted with high intelligence, basic tool use and a strong social networks. Exploiting the landscape for territorial control is deeply rooted in our evolutionary history. This chimpanzee behaviour requires complex cognitive abilities that help to defend or expand their territories, and would be favoured by natural selection. Lead author of the paper, Sylvain Lemoine says, “Tactical warfare is considered a driver of human evolution. The research indicates that the chimps gauge the distance to rivals before venturing into their territories.Ī paper describing the findings has been published in PLOS Biology. Up on the hilltops, the chimpanzees can also hear their rivals from a distance. On top of the hills in the border regions between the two territories, the chimpanzees would spend their time resting silently, as against foraging and eating which are both noisy activities. ![]() ![]() The researchers discovered that the chimpanzees were twice as likely to climb hills when moving towards the territory of the rival group, when compared to moving towards the core areas of their own territories. The findings are based on a three year study of two rival chimpanzee groups in the forests of west Africa. ![]() This is one of the oldest military tactics used by humans, and scientists were surprised to see the behaviour among chimpanzees as it was believed to be a uniquely human activity. Researchers have observed chimpanzees using high ground for reconnaissance purposes, often before making forays into enemy territories at opportunistic times when the chances of a confrontation are minimal.
